If you, like me, have been wondering how the National Rifle Association (NRA) — the gun lobby group that advocates absolutely no restrictions on gun ownership of any kind — would react to the Newtown shootings, well, we’re all still waiting. But so far the response appears to be to run and hide — the NRA’s Twitter feed has yet to acknowledge it, and the group took down it’s Facebook page altogether over the weekend.
On Saturday, one day after the unthinkable shootings at a Newtown, Conn. elementary school, the NRA took a more drastic measure by deactivating its Facebook page after celebrating getting to 1.7 million fans on the social site earlier in the week.
While the group has not commented since Friday’s tragedy, it appears to have staked out a strategy to take its brand out of the social media picture in the wake of a mass-shooting news event. Given its guns-rights cause, the social media buzz after such events seems to be an unenviable conversation for the org to partake in. The NRA’s chief Twitter account, which has doubled in followers to 63,000 since the Aurora shootings, has been silent since tweeting out a holidays giveaway contest early Friday.
Is this retreating or reloading, Sarah?

I hope every single member of the NRA fell down some stairs on Friday. You know, not enough to break anything but enough to just hurt for the whole day.
yeah, let’s have people who had nothing to do with the tragic shooting injured because they happen to believe you should have the right to own a gun, which i’m pretty sure has nothing to do with going into an elementary school and killing kids.
Makes perfect sense…
Let’s forget that this man was a crazy person, who killed his crazy, doomsday hoarding mother, and took her unsecured weapons.
But, hey…I hope all the NRA people die in a fire…
Look, you may disagree with the NRA on one or more specific issues, but how many of these shooters have been members? I haven’t heard that any of them have been, and the media usually digs pretty deep on these people. People have a right to join organizations, express their opinions, and support issues.
While we are blaming everyone but the shooter I’m going to go old school and blame Marilyn Manson for this. He hasn’t gotten enough credit for violent murders lately.
I
It’s a gun club that advocates the “right” to own assault rifles. Fuck Gun Club.
I hope as soon as time travel is invented I can go back and push Cameron’s mom down some stairs, not to hurt her, but just enough to stop Cameron from being born.
Also, I would bang her.
With a coat hanger?
If only all of those tiny children had been armed. They could have ended this catastrophe in seconds.
If only Marky Mark were there to stop it.
The NRA bailed because they, as an organization, don’t really believe anything that they say. They’re a political lobby and unofficial P/R firm for gun manufacturers, and they’re only in it for money. If they were true believers then they’d chalk this massacre up to the cost of doing business. You know, because Freedom is not free and gun control is hitting what you mean to hit.
Does this mean I can go kick my grandfather in the ass? I think I’d really feel a lot better doing that.
CORPORATIONS MAN!
