We interrupt your normal programming to note that “substantial progress” is reportedly being made in the Boston bombings investigation, and someone sent a letter filled with ricin to the White House addressed to President Obama. It feels like September of 2001 all over again.
A Boston law enforcement source told CNN Wednesday that there is “substantial progress” in the criminal investigation into Monday’s Boston Marathon bombings. The source called the progress “significant.”
On Wednesday morning, a federal law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge of the investigation told CNN’s Fran Townsend that a lid to a pressure cooker thought to have been used in the bombings had been found on a roof of a building at the scene.
And reports CNN:
Government laboratories are testing samples of a suspicious substance found in letters at off-site White House and Senate mailrooms after preliminary test results pointing to the deadly poison ricin rattled Washington, authorities said Wednesday.
White House mail handlers identified a “suspicious substance” Tuesday in a letter addressed to President Barack Obama that preliminarily tested positive for ricin, the FBI said. The same day, a similar letter addressed to Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi, tested positive for ricin — a toxin with no known antidote, officials said.
And on CNN just now, John King reported that a suspect has been identified using department store security camera footage. An arrest, apparently, is imminent.
My prediction: this has all been the work of a New Hampshire-based anti-government militia group led by a man named Walter White.
