Ellen Page: ‘I’m Here Today Because I Am Gay’

In a speech at the inaugural “Time to THRIVE” conference in Las Vegas yesterday, homeskillet supreme Ellen Page confirmed what everyone has already known for years: Patrick Wilson had it coming, honest to blog. Also, that she’s gay. Page’s announcement was over eight minutes long, seven minutes of which were oddly spent explaining the plots of various Leonardo DiCaprio movies to the assembled crowd.

“I’m here today because I am gay,” [Page said at the event], which was organized by Human Rights Campaign. “And because…maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.”

The actress also said that she had decided to publicly declare her sexuality because she was “tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered, and my relationships suffered. And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain.” (Via)

But when will she come out as Canadian?
