Matthew McConaughey Explains The Origin Of ‘Alright, Alright, Alright’ And The Story Does Not Disappoint

Matthew McConaughey‘s cry of “alright, alright, alright” is legendary. First uttered by McConaughey during his very first scene on film (as David Wooderson in Dazed And Confused), the phrase has become a staple of his personality and was arguably the best (and definitely most anticipated) part of his amazing Oscar acceptance speech.

In the 2011 (pre-McConaissance!) interview with George Stroumboulopoulos above, McConaughey explains exactly how he tapped into the Wooderson character to come up with the phrase. The story does not disappoint, nor does McConaughey’s masterful telling of it.
