Evidence Of Dilated Peoples Chooses Between DJ Premier And Dr. Dre In The Latest ‘Sound Check’
The latest episode of Sound Check with Jeremy Hecht features an underground West Coast hip-hop veteran: Evidence. Born and raised in Los Angeles' Venice neighborhood, Evidence was one-third of pivotal backpack rap trio Dilated Peoples (along with Rakaa and DJ Babu), and has had a long and storied solo career, encompassing six studio albums. The most recent of which, Unlearning Vol. 2, dropped in August on Rhymesayers Entertainment and can be heard on his Bandcamp. Y Evidence finds himself choosing between some of rap's most legendary pioneering acts in today's episode, including tracks from icons such as A Tribe Called…
From Lollapalooza To ACL, Pop Stars Are Taking Over Music Festivals
From Coachella to Lollapalooza and the just concluded Austin City Limits — festivals that used to be a haven for indie and rock acts are now pushing pop stars to the top. Here’s what the names at the top of this year’s lineup say about the shifts of festivals and popular music in general. To go forward, we must first go backwards — and when it comes to music festival culture in the United States, one of the best examples of how genres and festivals have shifted in popularity over time, is the line-up changes in one of our longest-running,…
Summer Walker Announces The ‘Finally Over It’ Release Date With A Cheeky Lie Detector Test
Summer Walker's Finally Over It is finally (almost) here. The sultry singer revealed the long-awaited release date for the third album in her Over It trilogy with an amusing trailer/short film in which she sits down for a Vogue magazine-style lie detector test. The test dispenses with much preamble, jumping right in with, "Is the album coming out this year?" "Yes," Summer answers, truthfully. "Is the album coming out this month?" follows, with Summer replying, "No." Of course, she can't help teasing fans with a few more questions, including "Is London On The Track?" referring to her former beau, "Will…
IDK And Kaytranada Reunite And Bring DMX Into The Mix With ‘S.T.F.’
Cross-generational collaborations where one of the acts involved is deceased are always tricky. It's hard to know whether the decedent would actually have approved their voice pairing with the contemporary artist employing it. However, there's little doubt that DMX would have loved contributing to IDK's new single, "S.T.F." IDK and DMX are so similar philosophically that "Start To Finish" is a perfect mesh of their voices and styles. Kaytranada, with whom IDK had previously collaborated on the smooth Simple, provides a surprisingly hard beat that perfectly captures the propulsive vibe of DMX's best work, while Jay turns his normally laconic…
Sabrina Carpenter Goes Full ‘Sex And The City’ For A New ‘SNL’ Teaser
Not only has Sabrina Carpenter quickly become one of the biggest pop stars in the world, but she has done it while showing that she has one of the most fun personalities in the business, too. That, paired with her past as an actor, makes her the perfect candidate to pull double-duty on Saturday Night Live, appearing as both host and musical guest. That's just what she's doing this weekend, as it was previously announced. Now, days ahead of the episode, we have our first teaser from Carpenter. In it, she goes full Sex And The City. It starts with…
Ice Spice Catwalks Her Way Through A High-Fashion ‘Baddie Baddie’ Video
Two weeks after dropping her new single, "Baddie Baddie," Ice Spice has followed up with a stylish music video. Directed by Ice Spice herself along with her frequent collaborators The Evil Twins, George and Frederick Buford, the "Baddie Baddie" visual was shot during September's New York Fashion Week and sees Ice pair off with some of the industry's most in-demand models, including Sudanese-American Anok Yai. Ice shows off her sturdiest strut as she catwalks her way through the streets of New York on the way to the hottest shows. Prior to releasing "Baddie Baddie," Ice Spice shocked the rap world…
This Is Lorelei’s ‘Sort-Of-Second Sort-Of-Album’ ‘Holo Boy’ Is On The Way
Nate Amos is busy, whether he's performing with his band Water From Your Eyes or solo as This Is Lorelei. His first solo album, Box For Buddy, Box For Star, arrived last year. Now, he's readying what a press release calls a "sort-of-second sort-of-album", dubbed Holo Boy. The reason for the uncertain labeling is that instead of a bunch of new songs, Amos grabbed older songs from his back catalog and re-recorded them in May 2025. The ten re-recorded songs from come nine different original releases and were written between 2014 and 2021. Out now is the new recording of…
Solange Knowles Takes A New Position As USC’s First Scholar In Residence
While Solange's big sis Beyoncé racks up the hits, the younger Ms. Knowles has taken a more circuitous path in the music business. It's led her to some interesting places; she's directing films, scoring ballets, curating events, and learning new instruments, proving that there is more to musicianship than simply recording music and performing concerts. Solange's latest resume addition furthers that end; this week, she began a three-year position as the University of Southern California's (USC) first-ever scholar in residence for the Thornton School of Music. As part of her duties, she'll teach a course, Records of Discovery: Methodologies for…
Wale Shifts His Self-Talk With The BNYX-Produced ‘Mirroronnabenz’
UPDATE: Wale's "Mirroronnabenz" video is out now. Check it out above. Wale knows how he can be. Over the year's the DMV area pioneer has earned himself a reputation for being short-tempered (to put it nicely) and sensitive about his status in hip-hop. After all, very few other artists with his resume get talked about the way he does, and almost no one is meaner to him than he is to himself. He aims to change that with "Mirroronnabenz," the latest single from his upcoming eighth studio album and Def Jam debut, Everything Is A Lot. Over a BNYX-produced Afro-swing…
Jordan Ward Announces His Second Album ‘Backward’ With ‘Smoking Potna’ Featuring Sailorr
St. Louis crooner Jordan Ward released one of the best R&B albums of 2023 in his debut Forward, snapping up attention with its single "White Crocs" and becoming one of the most exciting young voices in music today. Now, he's returned to announce its follow-up, Backward, and share the first single: "Smoking Potna" featuring Florida breakout singer Sailorr. In the single, Ward asserts that his "smoking partner" is the only person he smokes with, highlighting the special connection between them. "I don't pass the blunt to no one else but you, baby / You can help yourself." Sailorr doubles down…
‘Regretting You’: Everything To Know About The New Film Adaptation From The Author Of ‘It Ends With Us’
Colleen Hoover is on fire. Last year, the author's book It Ends With Us was adapted into a Blake Lively-starring movie (even if the whole thing has been at least a little overshadowed by off-screen drama). She has two other movies, Reminders Of Him and Verity, in the pipeline for 2026, but before that, we get Regretting You this year. The latest young-adult adaptation dives into the aftermath of an unexpected accident and how it shakes up a family. Among those portraying that family are Allison Williams and Mckenna Grace. Ahead of the movie's release, keep reading for everything you…
Doechii’s ‘Live From The Swamp’ Tour Opener Had Charli XCX Covers, K-Pop Light Sticks, And More
From the beginning, Doechii won fans over on the strength of her live show. Whether she was performing on late-night TV, behind NPR's Tiny Desk, or onstage at Camp Flog Gnaw, Doechii captivated with her staging, breath control, and theatrical delivery. The first night of her Live From The Swamp in Chicago upheld the standard she set at shows like The Grammys, wowing fans who attended and setting online fans abuzz with some of the innovations captured by their smartphones. One moment that caught fans' eyes (and ears) was Doechii covering Charli XCX's Brat standout "360" (a rap fave, clearly)…
Charli XCX Thought The Market Was Too Saturated With Tour Documentaries For A ‘Brat’ Film
Charli XCX's Brat tour is one of the biggest music events in recent memory, but don't expect a tour documentary to surface, because Charli shot the idea down. Why? She thinks the market for tour docs is saturated. That's what she said in a new Vanity Fair interview. She said she didn't feel like her experience didn't line up with what's expected of a music documentary, saying: "I feel like my problem with a lot of musician documentaries is it often shows the musician coming up against some kind of opposition and eventually overcoming it to be the hero. And…
Joji Blows Off ‘Pixelated Kisses’ Because He Wants The Real Thing On His Comeback Single
Three years after his last release, 2022's Smithereens, Joji is back. His new single, "Pixelated Kiss" is a critique of modern dating, as he points out the inadequacy of digital interaction in comparison to the real thing. "Pixelated kisses got me goin' insane / Replicate this moment from a million miles away," he croons on the chorus over a thundering, slowly dissolving trap beat. "Waiting for the signal, baby, nevеr make a sound / If you never hеar from me, all the satellites are down." After spending the first five years of his career on Warner and 88rising (at least,…
Sudan Archives Hitchhikes In Heels In Her Balloon-Filled ‘A Bug’s Life’ Video
Sudan Archives put her heels to work in the high-fashion video for "A Bug's Life," the latest single from her upcoming album, The BPM. The video sees Sudan marching through the desert with a bouquet of balloons, and then donning a chrome bodysuit that Beyoncé would definitely approve of. The track itself transforms a soulful house beat with Sudan's deadpan rhymes about a highly successful gold digger who "just hit a scam over 90 bands," but can't find love. The single shows off just another facet of her upcoming album, which bounces from boisterous battle rap on "Ms. Pac Man"…

Armand Hammer & The Alchemist Play Some ‘Super Nintendo’ On Their Latest ‘Mercy’ Track
Last month, Billy Woods and Elucid (collectively known as Armand Hammer) and The Alchemist announced their second album, Mercy. Due November 7 via Backwoodz Studioz and Rhymesayers Entertainment, the album is the follow-up to the trio's 2021 debut, Haram. Today, they've shared the second preview of the project, a track called "Super Nintendo." As suggested by its title, its beat sounds very 16-bit (I can't place it, but if anyone wants to let me know if there's a specific game, feel free to reach out on social media), and Billy and Elucid rap their usual, densely-packed verses. You can check…
Laufey Is Bringing Her ‘Mei Mei The Bunny’ Character To Life With A New Picture Book
Laufey fans know Mei Mei The Bunny, a character the artist has used to release alternate versions (instrumental, lo-fi, and sped-up) of her songs. Now, the rabbit's lore is expanding as the titular star of Laufey's new picture book. Laufey wrote Mei Mei The Bunny and the book features illustrations by Lauren O'Hara. Teyana Taylor Reflects On The ‘Hard Part’ Of A Breakup Alongside Lucky Daye In Her New Video
Teyana Taylor observes that the aftermath of a breakup is the real "Hard Part" in her latest video from Escape Room. In the video, Taylor and guest singer Lucky Daye drive in a convertible through the desert, stopping to get gas and taking the time to reflect on the regrets they've left behind. If you've seen One Battle After Another, it's easy to imagine that this is where her character ends up, hitchhiking her way down a Mexican highway as she escapes her past hardships -- and leaves loved ones behind. "Hard Part" follows "Bed Of Roses" and "Long Time"…
The Vibe Attracts The Tribe: 10 Years Of Soul In The Horn
Ten years ago, Soul In The Horn began as a playlist. Over the past decade, it has evolved into a New York City institution and a global movement. Co-founded by DJ Natasha Diggs and producer DProsper, the project grew organically from basement parties in Brooklyn to dance floors across continents, becoming a beacon for musical curation, live instrumentation, and community energy. Over time, what began as a niche gathering of crate-diggers and musical explorers grew in scale -- and in spirit. It has become a place where dancers testify that they've found freedom, connection, and even lifelong partnerships. It's an…

It's no secret Megan Thee Stallion loves Halloween; the Houston rapper gets into the spirit of Spooky Season like no other. A staunch fan of cosplay, creepies, crawlies, and everything in between, Thee Stallion's annual Hottieween party has become a fall fixture. This year, she promises the biggest celebration yet, as she brings Hottieween back home to Texas. Neo-Soul Pioneer D’Angelo Has Reportedly Died At Age 51
Michael Eugene Archer, better known as D'Angelo, has reportedly passed away at age 51 after a private battle with pancreatic cancer. His death was first reported by journalist Marc Lamont Hill on Twitter, and later confirmed by TMZ. D'Angelo was best recognized as one of the pioneers of the so-called "neo-soul" movement in contemporary R&B in the 1990s and 2000s, breaking out with his debut album Brown Sugar in 1995. That album's singles, "Brown Sugar," "Cruisin'," and "Lady," were credited with driving the nasent sub-genre's popularity along with releases from Erykah Badu in the same year. In 2000, D'Angelo followed…
JID Reaches For ‘Glory’ With A Spirited Performance On ‘The Late Show’
Ahead of kicking off his God Does Like World Tours world tour (ahem), JID stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform one of the standout tracks from his new album, God Does Like Ugly: "Glory." In keeping with the track's spiritual themes, the performance took its cues from a Sunday service, complete with a choir and neon crosses dressing the set. "Early in the mornin', got sun in my eyes," JID raps. "Givin' glory to God, I'm alert and alive / I ain't even shleep, I been workin', I'm tired / But it's not gon' deter my…
Clipse Let The Chips Fall In An Electric Performance Of ‘So Be It’ On ‘Kimmel Live’
Clipse's year of dominance shows no signs of stopping. After dropping their first album together in 15 years, Let God Sort Em Out, Malice and Pusha T took over pop culture with their first tour since 2010, performances at the 2025 ESPY Awards, Dia De Los Deftones Festival, and Coachella 2026, and features with rising stars like JID and Tyler The Creator. And still, the hype train only gains momentum. The Virginia duo stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to perform the album's lead single "So Be It," taking over the stage with murky red lighting and their usual…
Wet Leg’s Rhian Teasdale Is Soaked In Blood In The Band’s New ‘Mangetout’ Video
Wet Leg are now a few months removed from the release of Moisturizer, one of 2025's best indie albums so far. There's still plenty of life left in the project, as today (October 14), the band shared a new video for "Mangetout." The visual stars the band's Rhian Teasdale, which you can only really tell from her silver shorts, as she's mostly wearing a gigantic wig that covers her face as she dances through corn fields. By the end of it, she removes the wig and finds herself in the back of a truck, covered in blood. Meanwhile, the band…
