The Rappers Spelling Their Own Names Supercut You Didn’t Know You Needed Is Finally Here

Rappers spelling their own names in lyrics is one of the all-time gimmick rhymes. Thankfully my flow is so tight I’ve never been reduced to using it, although replacing “Mack” with “Maske” in “Return of the Mack” never fails to improve the song. Feel free to do so going forward.

Anyhoo, I used to assume Method Man sort of popularized name-spelling with “M-E-T-H-O-D MAN,” but maybe it was The Suger Hill Gang, or maybe that’s just the oldest old ass clip Slackstory could dig up. Many props to them by the way for the comprehensiveness and semi-chronological order of this supercut. My only question is did rappers stop spelling their own names altogether in the early 2000s or did the video editor behind this just threaten to off himself if he had to spend another hour on the project?

One more very important housekeeping item. Can we all agree that “D.I.D.D.Y.” by P. Diddy is the suckiest and laziest of all the sucky and lazy Diddy songs? OK? Good. Vid after the jump.
