Jay-Z Announced July 4th Release Of New Album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ During A Samsung Commercial

Back in 2007, Kanye West released a song called “Big Brother” – one of his most introspective tracks ever – about his “sibling rivalry” with Jay-Z. The premise behind the rivalry was that Jay-Z was always trying to one-up his younger counterpart. Well, it’s time for Yeezus to dust off his list of gripes and consider a sequel as Jay-Z has just overshadowed little bro again.

During the NBA Finals telecast, a Samsung commercial aired showing Jay-Z with Hip-Hop’s heavyweight producers: Pharrell, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and Rick Rubin. During the commercial, Jay announces that his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail would drop on July 4th.

And with that, the Yeezus hype comes to screeching halt. Big Brother’s announcement came two days after Yeezus leaked online and two days before the album is officially released. Ouch. Not only that, Jigga has decided to release the album all at once with not singles, just like Kanye. At this rate, I’m half-expecting Beyonce to go into labor tomorrow out of sheer immaculate force of Jay-Z’s will to outshine anything Kanye does.

How does Samsung fit? Well the album will be released for free on Samsung phones three days before the rest of the world can hear it. It’s a hell of a coup for Samsung as iPhone-using Jay-Z stans are running red lipstick around their faces and weeping in the fetal position.

There’s more to this, I’m sure and the news will continue to trickle down as July 4th approaches. Until then, there’s always Yeezus…right?
