WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior. Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at WrestleMania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter. We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans. WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans. Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife Dana and his two daughters.

Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. We’ll keep you updated as more information comes in, if we can keep from lying down and staring off into the distance for the rest of the day.

We live in a world of miscommunication and “Twitter hacking” so take this with all the grains of salt in the world, but WWE COO Triple H just announced on Twitter that he’s saddened to hear about the passing of The Ultimate Warrior, a guy who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday, appeared at WrestleMania on Sunday and cut a promo in a plastic Warrior facepaint mask on Monday.

Here’s the tweet:

“The Ultimate Warrior is dead” is one of the great wrestling urban myths, one so prolific and shared-around that Deadspin once included him as their Dead Wrestler Of The Week in tribute. He died and was replaced with a second Warrior! That’s why he was skinner! Or why his haircut was different, or whatever the kids at school came up with.

If this is true, it’s going to be one of the most shocking things to happen to wrestling maybe ever. If it isn’t … hey Triple H, keep your phone away from the boys.

Finally, here’s Warrior addressing the crowd at Raw on Monday night…
