Back in November, I told you that “Whisker Wars” was coming to IFC. Now we have our first look at the reality series devoted to competitive beard-growing (video below), and it seems like the people involved have a sense of humor about it. Perhaps my dry wit detector is broken, but there’s a guy with a long-ass beard who swears that bearding is a sport, and another who talks about wanting to destroy the competition and ruin their names.
Honestly, this looks intriguing enough to watch on the spectacle alone, and the affable competitors displaying some intellect is enough to wash away the TLC/freakshow vibe. But then again, that may just be my jealousy at not being able to grow facial hair. I can go a week without shaving and all I get is the white trash goatee shadow, with two little side-patches on my jaw. It’s embarrassing. But on the other hand, I don’t have any back hair. I may not be able to pull off the lumberjack look, but I come out ahead when beach season rolls around.
