…Really, Marvel? That’s your big play?
It makes sense, in a way. We all know that “The Avengers 2″ will be coming in 2015 and will feature a space-faring bad guy (I know you all know who this guy is, but there’s always that one ass who screams about spoilers and I’ve got better things to do today than lecture him about sucking). And I’m assuming this is the new version of the Guardians, with Adam Warlock, Drax, etc, who get in a big fight with said space-faring bad guy. This movie will also lead directly into “Avengers 2″, so there’s that.
Latino Review points out that we’ve seen an awful lot of Nova lately, so it’s likely the movie will center around him.
And my soul cringes inside saying this, but it’ll probably feature Rocket Raccoon. As in, Rocket Raccoon recruits Nova from Earth. KIDS LOVE TALKING ANIMALS!
You might detect a slight hint of skepticism, and you’d be correct. Not that I don’t think this couldn’t make a good movie, but I don’t think a movie made entirely of, let’s face it, back-benchers has quite the appeal Marvel thinks it does.
That said, Marvel does have a record of getting the right director for the material. I could see this working well with a director such as Joe Cornish or Ruben Fleischer. With the right tone, this could work. But this is by no means a chip shot, and Marvel’s going to have to work hard to sell this one.

What exactly is wrong with Rocket Raccoon?
Tell you what, if this movie comes out and DOESN’T contain both Rocket Raccoon and Groot, I’m boycotting it!
Not sure about Nova though, they were able to completely remake the character as someone alot more interesting in Annihilation, but I’m skeptical of that working in a movie.
Rocket Raccoon is the best. Period.
Isn’t Nova currently dead in the 616 universe? I know there’s plenty of time to bring him back, but I still think it’s a funny choice to focus on a character who isn’t alive and the fans that would be excited about the movie know it.
There is the Nova Corps although Richard Rider is supposedly dead. Not that that stopped Peter Quill or Thanos who were supposed to be “dead” along side Rider.

Yeah, you’re not alone in that. I had to pick up a graphic novel a few months ago to get familiar as part of my job.
Seriously Dan. Read the new(er) Nova stuff, as well as Annihilation and so forth before you say how lame Rocket Racoon is. Wait until you meet Groot. Once you do, it will be your favorite exclamation. OF. ALL. TIME. But seriously, do some research before popping off.
I respect how other people feel, but I am incapable of taking a talking funny animal seriously. I stopped reading DC entirely for a year after the Red Lanterns were introduced and they expected me to fear a purple housecat.
I think going in a space opera direction is a cool generic shift here. If rumors are true, Marvel’s next earth-bound superhero films are going to international action/espionage and occult fantasy (Black Panther and Dr. Strange, respectively) so props to them for mixing things up. I also think a cosmic Marvel film could set up both the villain and some new heroes (including Carol Danvers) for Avengers 2.

This movie is going to be standalone offering a prequel look at the new villain Thanos, this is no way whatever the fuck you are implying about a total crossover, its another marvel movie just like antman and thor and the capt and iron man, explaining another element of the story. f*ck you know only douchebags hop onto the “rocket raccoon is gay” train right??
