Last year I wrote a piece exposing the fact that Cabela’s hunting games have, unbeknownst to most gamers, gone frighteningly insane. Basically, a few years back somebody decided Cabela’s line of mildly entertaining (especially if you’re drunk) big orange gun arcade hunting games should try to compete with Resident Evil. Don’t ask me why — I guess somebody at Activision just really hates endangered animals.
Well, Cabela’s latest hunting/horror hybrid is here and I’m not sure I even have words to describe it. I’ll just go with amazing. Hit the jump for the first trailer for Cabela’s Dangerous Hunts 2013…
Yeah, I’ll give you a moment to let your goose bumps subside. Hit the second page for five reasons why this is an obvious GOTY candidate…

if its anything like the last couple games ive rented all arcade like screw it why cant they make a realistic one??? hope this one is ill be renting first if its good ill buy if not meh
I’m detecting a little sarcasm in this post
Purely unintentional, I swear.
I’ve always wanted too hunt some of the larger, more dangerous animals on the planet! Thanks Cabela!!!
Obviously, since Activision gives their developers hardly any money or time, it’s gonna be a budget title. If you can look past that and just enjoy the game, it’s probably gonna be pretty fun. Anybody who wants a realistic hunting game needs to check out Cabela’s Hunting Expedtitions. Activision finally listened to the people on facebook, and now FUNLABS is making it for wii, xbox 360, ps3, and pc download.
I havn’t fully enjoyed a Cabela’s hunting game since Deer Hunt 2005. Aside from the the flaw of killing your character by simply sliding down a hill, feet on ground, and the flawed firearm descriptions, the game is a very good hunting sim. Being aware of wind and sound, looking for tracks (that don’t glow!!!!), and using large sandbox enviroments.
Since, Cabela’s games have become increasingly and saddly arcade-like, very far removed from the real hunting experience and the dicipline and real satisfaction the sport holds,
As a lifelong hunter living in Northern Canada, I personally hold to the notion that responsible and ethical hunting should be a personal test of intellect, honour and skill. Hunting games should, and once did, relfect such.
There are plenty of zombie-games out there. Hunting sims should not fall into that catagory.
