Hey Star Wars Nerds — Real Life Speeder-Inspired Hover Bikes!

My favorite Star Wars moment as a kid? The speeder bike chase scene from Return of the Jedi. What? It’s a cool scene! My second favorite? That bit where the Ewoks beat an AT-ST. What? My third favorite was from the first Ewoks TV movie.

Anywho, a Californian company called Aerofex is intent on making a speeder-inspired hover bike a reality. So far their prototype isn’t as sleek or fast as a Star Wars speeder, but it can actually fly at nearly 30 mph — in other words, fast enough to kill yourself, so clearly they’re onto something.
