Following Warner’s big win on Tuesday in their Superman court case with the estates of Shuster and Siegel, the Justice League movie is moving forward for the Summer of 2015. Quite a bit of Warner’s future earnings was riding on the case. The LA Times points out, had Warner lost the case, they wouldn’t be able to include many key elements of Superman in films after 2013. That would not only prevent a decent Justice League, — JLA without Superman? No thanks. — but would have also prevented any sequels of next summer’s Man of Steel. We’ll wait till we see it to decide if that would have been a good thing.
One of the other major questions surrounding the film was whether it would be the kick off of a new universe or the culmination of several films, ala The Avengers. The former is now, in fact, Warner Bros. plan. That means expect that Batman reboot sometime after 2015. [/film]
We’ve been assuming they’d take the opposite route as The Avengers for awhile now, but we still don’t know if they’ll use the actors who have already played the characters (Henry Cavill for Superman and Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern) or how they’ll work around rebooting Batman so soon. Spinning off several new franchises from one Justice League movie also creates a unique challenge. If Justice League tanks, it takes down several other DC franchises in development. Then again, they can just reboot them one year later with a foreign-born actor doing an American accent. Hollywood loves that.

Sorry, but I have heard nothing but how Warner has screwed Shuster ans Siegel, y’know the guys who are the godfathers of every comic people love. Kinda like how Marvel treated Stan Lee for a while.
It’s the estates of Shuster and Siegel. And my understanding is that they’re trying to deprive the world of Superman just to get paid for what their grandparents did. So fuck them.
There’s merit to both sides of the argument. Siegel and Shuster were shafted, but that was back in the ’30s, and in the ’70s DC did make an effort to do right by them (after being shamed into it, but still).
I just don’t see JLA being good. I’m holding out hope for Man of Steel. JLA is filled with suck heroes. Why not just have Superman fire them all?
I think the heroes in it have more potential than the heroes of the Avengers, considering JLA actually has the biggest heroes of the DCU. it’s about picking and choosing what characters to focus on. The Avengers have had their fill of shitty/seemingly useless characters as well.
That Hawkgirl seems real friendly.
Yeah I fall in the middle on the creator right issue a lot of times, mainly because in a lot of cases the creator of the characters don’t end up writing the best stories.
In regards to the JL movie, it’s going to come down to the directors and producers. If they manage to get Nolan to at least oversee it as the EP I think it’ll be just fine. I heard a rumor today though that two of the directors they’re looking at Ratner and McG, so you know if one of those are picked their entire film side is pretty much screwed.
the Justice League International (the real one, not the New 52 bullshit) did not have Superman in it. And it was awesome.
show some goddamned respect.
“JLA without Superman? No thanks.”
There’s a Mr. Giffen and a Mr. DeMatties here to see you. They said it was urgent.
I think that Henry Cavill will definitely be used if they are planning on spinning off characters after JLA. As for Green Lantern, I can’t imagine they will bring back either Ryan Reynolds or even the Hal Jordan character.
Accepting that a lot of what Reynolds did with the character he called Hal Jordan was closer in tone to Kyle Rayner, I would just beg the Powers That Be on my knees to not use Guy Gardner. The whole of Rayner or Stewart… anyone. Even a new one. Just not the insufferably douchey Gardner.
We’ll get Stewart because he’s a black blank slate and I’ll bet a Marble IPA that DC will be gun-shy about using Cyborg. But Kyle Rayner would make more sense as a beleaguered everyman in his secret ID, something Marvel has always had over DC.
Well I won’t be happy till they make a JSA movie!
