Wondering what to pick up at the comics shop tomorrow? Here are a few we’re looking forward to.
Mind MGMT #0
Matt Kindt’s bizarre (and hilarious) series gets an “origins” issue. For those unfamiliar, the crux of the book is that there’s a secret government agency of psychic spies. The results are amusing, creepy, and off-kilter, especially since Kindt riffs on what often were actual ridiculous government projects.
Normally we’d dimiss this as a cheap gimmick, but Kindt is not the kind of writer who spins out a zero issue for cash, and Dark Horse isn’t the kind of publisher who goes for gimmicks. It’ll be interesting to see how it fits into the larger series.
Locke And Key: Omega #1
Several of you were wondering just where the next Locke And Key miniseries was for October. Apparently it was delayed until November. Joe Hill has been doing some of the best horror comics on the stands, which isn’t a surprise if you’ve read some of his other work, but pleasing nonetheless.
Where Is Jake Ellis #1
If you haven’t read Who is Jake Ellis?, essentially, it’s a spy story about a man only Jon Moore can see. Needless to say, he’s Jake Ellis. And it gets a bit… twisty from there. Nathan Edmondson and Tonci Zonjic will be picking up with this second series right where the first left off, and if they can keep up the style and energy that won them an Eisner, this will be yet another great mini from Image.
Let us know what book you’re looking forward to tomorrow in the comments, and we’ll talk some comics.

What happened to linking the release list? I loved that! Now I have to google it MYSELF?
Pretty great week for me after being generally out of the comics game for the last couple months. Saga’s back, following Manhattan Projects last week, Image continues to be awesome. Walking Dead, All New X-Men, New Avengers, and Fantastic Four.
Mainly just curious about X-Men. They’re far and away my favorite thing about Marvel (the X-Men) but Bendis’ writing grew incredibly annoying near the end of his Avengers stint. Another team book doesn’t seem the best for him, and now that he’s basically running the entire X line for the next little while it’s looking like I might have to say goodbye to the muties for a couple years. Hickman on Avengers is pretty much the best thing that could have happened anyway.
Yeah, I’m grabbing all the Marvel Now! books, because I’m curious and I’m working on a big fat overview of them once they’ve all hit. I will say that every time a Marvel writer I can’t stand, like Mark Millar, takes over the X-Men in some form, they tend to do their best work. I’m hopeful Bendis will follow that trend.
agreed re: SAGA, Manhattan Projects, etc.
in the back of last week’s Manhattan Projects, Hickman gave an update as to the status of his books. I was very excited to learn that the book Image released 2 issues of and then was never heard from again, SECRET, is still very much alive. it’s just been buried under a bunch of his other series. Series’s. Serieses?
Anyway, I can’t wait for the new Hickman books that were announced last month as well.
Picking up the last issue of The Boys. Methinks the story would have been better if the run had been shorter. Might be the last of Ennis on superhero comics as well…
I’ve also been enjoying Elephantmen, which is the first Image comic I’ve read since I gave up on Spawn around issue #30 many many moons ago.
Not a new release perse, but I happened to leaf through a trade of Metabarons at the store I shop at and I became hooked. The art is bizarrely awesome and the story was clearly written with the aid of psychotropic chemicals. I’ll be picking up the second trade tomorrow.
I’ll check Metabarons out, thanks! You might like Zaucer of Zilk, if you’re into that kind of thing.
Image has some AMAZING stuff coming out, you should definitely get back into the fold with them.
Locke and key is back! There are no words to describe the size of my nerd boner for the Omega installment.
If it´s like mine, it´ll be like Liam Neesons
