There’s some pretty interesting stuff hitting the stands tomorrow, and we kick it off with the last comic we’d expect to be interested in from the last publisher we’d expect to put it out.
Mylo Xyloto #1
No, we’re not fans of Coldplay or pretentious rock operas.
But we are fans of Bongo Comics. Bongo, for those unfamiliar, is essentially Matt Groening’s vanity publishing label. Being worth insane amounts of money means Groening doesn’t have to print anything he doesn’t want to, and Bongo has essentially been putting out Simpsons and Futurama comics, as well as Spongebob Squarepants, although it does occasionally put out other material Groening is interested in, like Sergio Aragones’ work.
So, the fact that he’s voluntarily publishing this means either Groening is the biggest Coldplay fan ever, or there’s some sort of virtue to this book. Either way, our interest is piqued. If the book’s good enough for the creator of The Simpsons to think it belongs on the stands, then we want to see why he believes that.
Star Wars #2

To say we wouldn’t pick this book up just because of the Alex Ross cover would be a lie, and lies are unseemly. But it helps that the first issue was some of the best Star Wars comics Dark Horse has been putting out lately.
Oh, also, this issue has Boba Fett. So, really, you just ran out of excuses to not buy it.
Powers Bureau #1
Yes, Powers is back. The relentlessly delayed comic finally makes the jump to the federal league, following Deena Pilgrim to the FBI. But, of course, she’s still dealing with superheroes, and it doesn’t appear Walker is entirely out of the picture.
Mostly we’re just glad for the fans of this book. The stop/start rhythm of publication has been incredibly frustrating, and hopefully the curse that’s following Bendis and Oeming on this one fades for once.
What one book are you most looking forward to? Take a look at the full list and let us know.

Hands down Batman #17. I’ve loved the whole Death of the Family storyline and am both excited and terrified about this issue. I hope it’s good but with the way some stories go, it will probably be lame.
We’ll have a review tomorrow. I wish I could say more, but DC’s pretty serious about its embargoes.
Second hands down Batman been a good crossover despite my regrets in buying the teen titans issue. excited to see how it plays out Jokers been maniacal
my top pick would be either Superboy #17 due to H’El On Earth (actually enjoyed it), or Scarlet Spider #14 to see where the Mexican wolf party goes.
I keep meaning to pick up SS again: The phrase “Mexican Wolf party” mighta just sold me.
Have to admit I’m curious about Mylo Xyloto.
I’ll pick up the usual assortment of mutant titles.
Intrigued by the new starwars title. There doesn’t seem much territory left where you could use the original trilogy characters without stepping all over the existing continuity (such as it is) but between A New Hope and Empire seems like a good spot. Are they working around the existing material? Can’t remember exactly what is out there beyond the marvel stuff from the 80′s and maybe a couple of the novels.
I think they’re ignoring it somewhat. I’m not too fussy about continuity: I’m just loving the book.
agreed. who cares about continuity. we all love the characters, and new stories based on these characters is awesome.
I CARE DAMN IT! I exaggerate of course, but I think one of the things that has been so great about the expanded SW universe is that there really is an over-archer continuity with relatively few exceptions given the volume of material (comics, novels, video-games, etc… all from different publishers).
Granted, not everything within the continuity is great, or even good, but I hope between whatever new books darkhorse has planned and whatever the new movies will entail will at least attempt to work within the established story.
*over-arching…. although if Sterling Archer were to show up in the SW universe I would not object. He’d be like a whiter and more vulgar Lando Calrissian.
It’s not coming out for another month but I’m excited about Sledgehammer ’44
so STOKED for the new Powers Bureau books! this series has been excellently written and illustrated since trade #1.
also, Wood’s Star Wars book is great so far. you forgot to mention, this issue (#2) has stealth X-Wings for Leia’s secretive team.
also of note:
Crossed Badlands
Batman #17 (end of the Death Of The Family arc?)
Bedlam
Manhattan Projects
Walking Dead
End Times Of Bram & Ben
DAN! have you heard about this yes, fellow Spurrier fan?

I want to go to there…
I’m contacting Titan about maybe possibly something tying into this, actually.
I’m excited for a lot of books this week.
I’m a Scarlet Spider Shill, I love the work they’ve been doing. I love the Mexican Wolf Storyline thus far, I loved Minimum Carnage. I loved it all.
Secondly, Fatale… Speaks for itself.
Thirdly, The End Times of Bram and Ben 2, #1 made me laugh out loud multiply times. If Gambit was this interesting, I wouldn’t think about dropping that book.
And of course, Star Wars.
I was on the fence with Powers Bureau, I haven’t read any of the powers books, andd thought I might want to dive into that before getting into a new book. But I might just pull the trigger, because I lack impulse control.
