At least four actors have reportedly tested for the role of Drax the Destroyer in Guardians Of The Galaxy: Isiah Mustafa, Dave Bautista, Brian Patrick, and Jason Momoa. Latino Review claims Jason Momoa’s screen test “went so good [sic] that Marvel offered him the part and his reps have now countered, so the negotiations are ongoing.”
A writer for The Hollywood Reporter tweeted a contradictory statement that Jason Momoa had tested for the part but hadn’t been offered the role yet. Then the Latino Review writer countered that Marvel had offered the role, but Momoa’s negotiating for more money. Then they both wrote catty things about each other in their burn books, we imagine. GRRR, BLOGGING.
Appearing first in the pages of Iron Man, Drax was once once a human whose family was killed by Thanos. (The big guy introduced at the end of The Avengers.) His body destroyed, the human’s spirit was re-housed in a different body and rechristened Drax. The explicit reason for his resurrection: destroy Thanos. [/film]
You may know Jason Momoa from the Conan reboot or Bullet to the Head, but we’ll always remember him as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones. If he does get the job opposite Parks and Rec‘s Chris Pratt, this will finally bump up the pageviews on our Parks and Recreation / Game of Thrones crossover fanfic. We were just ahead of the curve on that one.

unfortounatly i don’t know anything about the Guardians of the Galaxy. but isn’t Drax the Destroyer the new herald for Galactus?
No Drax hasn’t been a herald…. but he could make a cool one
Nope, he was built to kill Thanos.
yea reading about him he seems cool, but having to kill thanos seems like a pretty tall order considering he’s killed the whole universe on more than one occasion.
Meh on Momoa. Hey Hollywood give Conan Stevens a call dammit.
I’ve only seen the guy in Game of Thrones, but this just seems to be such an obvious casting, I was kinda hoping for something a little more inspired. But if its between this, or, Vin Diesel say…I’d be ok with it.
Okay, so I was a bit “Really Marvel?” when they announced that “Guardians of the Galaxy” was going to be the bridge between Avengers and Avengers: Subtitle That Subtly Alludes to The Infinity Guantlet, But Seriously You Guys, This Movie Will Totally Be About The Infinity Guantlet, but after a couple of solid casting announcements (I’m solidly behind Chris Pratt in roles that aren’t completely comedic). I’m starting to really get behind this movie.
I’m optimistic based on the track record, as long as they get legit voice actors for Rocket and Groot. I think Momoa will be a terrific Drax – he’s a man of few words after all.
When watching this guy on Stargate Atlantis I never thought he’d become this big in Hollywood…heck I didn’t picture him leaving Vancouver
