Let’s face it, there are few things more adored by the internet than the Wu-Tang Clan and Neil deGrasse Tyson. So, yeah, THIS…
I do not know much about writing rap lyrics, but I’m guessing that most rappers do not meet with physicists and cosmologists from MIT and Cornell before sitting down to write. But that’s exactly what Wu-Tang Clan founding member GZA did during the creation of his new album, Dark Matter — a project the rapper hopes will turn his audience on to science.
GZA’s partner in this endeavor: Neil deGrasse Tyson, who is the fusion of astronomy and awesome in the shape of a man. Oh yes. Pretty sure this is going to be amaaaaaazing.
…
GZA isn’t just relying on his lyrics and music to convey his love of science; the album may also come with an illustrated book featuring a glossary of terms. Nor is he stopping with space. The next album in the series is going to be about oceans.
This has to be the most weird but wonderful collaboration between the worlds of hip-hop and science since Grandmaster Flash teamed up with Jacques Cousteau to write songs about marine conservation.
What, y’all don’t remember that? Damn I’m getting old!
(UPDATE: Our Josh Kurp saw GZA perform last night — Thursday, June 14 — in NYC. His review and a gallery of pics are up for your reading/viewing pleasure.)

GZA is also recording a life aquatic album after his space album. He’s currently meeting with Jacques Cousteau’s grandkid and other marine biologists, etc. in the same way that NDT was an adviser on this album.
OH MY GOD THIS IS GREAT NEWS
Liquid Swords is my fav hip hop album of all time. Can’t wait for this.
GZA has always been my favorite Wu member and it’s pretty much a toss up between 36 Chambers and Liquid Swords for my favorite Wu album. I’ll definitely check this out once it drops.
He truely is GZA Genius.
FYI: News reports that I am teaming up with Wu-Tang’s GZA to make a Hip Hop album are not entirely accurate. Actually, they’re just false. I had the fellow as a guest on a soon-to-be-aired episode of StarTalk Radio. That’s when I learned he was greatly inspired by the universe and by my writings on the subject – both of which informed themes and lyrics that will appear on his next album. Somehow, in the internet blogosphere, that morphed to: “Tyson & GZA are collaborating on a hip-hop album”. -NDTyson
Neil…. did you google your name again?
I thought we talked about this.
I suppose nobody remembers the password for an account named “haha yeah right.”
We should consult “bitch, what the fuck” for advice.
BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
