If you’re a fan of the highly specific genre of “New York bands that allegedly saved rock ‘n’ roll in the early 2000s, only to drift further and further away from their guitar-based sound on their last albums,” then we have good news for you: The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs both released new songs today.
Well, Yeah Yeah Yeahs released a teaser of a new song, “Always,” set to be released on their upcoming album Mosquito, while Julian Casablancas & Co. counter with the full-length “All the Time” from Comedown Machine. It’s unfair to make too strong of an evaluation about “Always,” but the buzzy “All the Time” is, unlike the keyboard-and-falsetto heavy “One Way Trigger,” quite good. It could fit in nicely on Room on Fire. Hear ‘em below.

I actually didn’t mind “One Way Trigger,” and I’m liking the mix of sounds on their new stuff so far.
This Strokes song sounds .. my cold indifference is holding a flaming orange for warmth. And it ain’t working.
Holy crap, is Fever to Tell really ten years old?!
Ha, I remember you saying that last year about Gold. The “ha” is actually directed at my mortality.
Honestly, I’m just panicking because I remember buying Fever to Tell the year I started college, which means it’s time for my 10 year high school reunion. Nooooooo.
AH Patty – we’re in the same freakin boat. SIGH.
Wow, two completely different sounds from the two new songs released by The Strokes. I was sort of “meh” about One Way Trigger, but I definitely can get on board with this sound.
Unfortunately, these are two very different songs, which makes any predictions about their next album’s direction hard to pinpoint.
Yeah, that’s my only concern too. Casablancas could very easily have thrown a freestyle rap in there just to say “eff it”
it actually makes predictions very easy. it will be exactly like Angles. half of it will sound like The Strokes and be awesome while the other half will be unlistenable nonsense.
You’re the unlistenable nonsense!
I remember in college when I used to fall asleep/black out to “Fever to Tell” like a baby and now I have to listen to it in small doses cause OLD. Migraines, man. They suck. But I push through the pain cause I’m stubborn as f**k and still heart YYYs 4 Eva.
Taken for a Fool surprised the hell out of me, and One Way Trigger sounds like a failed experiment, so I was looking forward to hearing All the Time.
It is okay.
