The most telling line in Beyoncé’s new single, “Bow Down,” which the FCC-upsetting air humper released last night via SoundCloud, occurs less than a minute into the track. Over a beat produced by Hit-Boy, best known for his work on “N*ggas in Paris,” she sings, “I took some time to live my life, but don’t think I’m just his little wife.”
I’m not sure who thinks of Bey, now more than fierce than Sasha Fierce, as simply Jay-Z’s lady, but if it means we’re that much closer to the follow-up to 2011′s 4, sure, whatever you say, Beyoncé.

Am I the only one suffering from Beyonce fatigue? I don’t want to sound like I have a problem with Bey being a strong independent woman or anything, but like Josh said, I don’t think anyone actually sees her as Jay-Z’s wife. It feels like she’s shooting down accusations no one is really making.
I mean, she made a documentary about herself. I’m trying to think of the last time a musician (or any other kind of artist) did something like that instead of, you know, just letting her or his work speak for itself. As other critics have pointed out (somewhere on the interwebz… I’m too lazy to check), she doesn’t really have an iconic set of songs that matches her iconic persona.
Maybe I just have a problem with calling things “fierce.”
Yeah, no you’re not the only one.
