If you’re keeping up with our Sons of Anarchy coverage, you know we feature a weekly Joel McHale Watch. We found out over the hiatus that Kurt Sutter had cast McHale as a con-man named Warren, and McHale even suggested that his character “was the best character the show has ever had” while also conceding that he has no idea what SOA stands for. Now we know when he’s going to be on the show.
Tonight.
According to a Tweet by Kurt Sutter, Joel McHale not only makes his first appearance in tonight’s episode, he “f***s some sh** up.”

As you see, there’s also a suggestion that the person he f***s the sh** out of is Venus Van Damme, the transvestite prostitute (SPOILERS) played by Walton Goggins last week in what was perhaps the best cameo in the history of television. In fact, they should probably rename the Emmy for Best Guest Star as “The Walton Goggins Transvestite Prostitute Award.” That’s how impressive he was.
That said, I kind of doubt that Walton Goggins will actually return. That had to be a one-off, but I wouldn’t mind if Sutter made Van Damme a series regular, or if he and McHale’s character become lovers. In fact, that would be an outstanding spin-off series: The Con Man and the Transvestite Prostitute Get a Room, starring Joel McHale and Walton Goggins. It’d be the most popular show in the history of the FX network.
What else do we know about McHale’s character? That he’ll get to shoot a gun; that he gets to run and shoot; and then jump over an embankment. ACTING! Also, McHale’s performance “should bring the whole series to a screeching halt.” It’s not the jump-the-shark episode; it’s the episode where McHale “picks up the shark and [he] jumps with the shark.”
Sons of Anarchy airs tonight at 10. You officially have our permission to skip the last half hour of the Presidential debate.

Joel better bro walk
I second this… also interested to see what time the first bro-walk occurs this evening. Jax broke it out at the 10:14 mark last week…
BRO WALK WATCH. Metz, I think it’s all now fair to expect detailed stats from you in tomorrow’s discussion.
I’ve always been secretly fascinated with bro walks and now thanks to you ladies I can be outwardly fascinated. Heart you guys.
THE BRO WALKS STRAIGHT, A PERFECT LINE
Maske, no shame in bro walk fascination
It was a classic story of man watches daughter burn to death, man falls in love with tranny hooker 3 days later. I like Walton Goggins, he was brilliant in The Shield and Justified, and while Sons has shown a decided improvement over the last two seasons it’s still a frustrating mess of a show littered with poor acting and implausible writing. It’s just recently dawned on me that maybe it’s supposed to be like that, the pacing/timing of introducing the tranny hooker being a key factor in that realization.
I think you’re right, and the overwhelming fan frustration comes from the wasted potential of the first two seasons, knowing that this show could have been so much more than an adrenaline and gasoline fueled soap opera for bros.
I think Sutter’s one of the few people out there that doesn’t know SoA is now a biker soap opera. He still thinks it’s high-class dramatic television.
It’s like you are expecting Shakespeare with your Hamlet…
When Juice asked Tig “Really?” in reference to the tranny hooker I felt like the question was really directed towards the writing staff.
Considering just about everyonne has sampled, parodied, or paid homage to Shakespeare, I don’t think that just because SoA has Hamletian overtones means it should be on par with Hamlet. Lion King is Hamlet of the Jungle, but it doesn’t have the same dramatic chops, either (Though it’s probably a better story than SoA, at least Simba’s flared nostrils make sense)
No one Bro walks like Simba while singing “Hakuna Matata”
End the east coast bias amongst tv websites!
It’d be the most popular show in the history of the FX network. ==> It’d be the most popular show in the history of television.
***FIXED
ok so here is the thing almost all of you have something to say about the writing or acting or the show in generall. well then you have every right to change the channel. you are not forced to watch it. it has plenty of followers to still place it high in ratings !! just saying why continue to watch something you really dont like ?
i dont think they dont like it, i think they do, but just want better writing. i loved the shows first 2 seasons, skipped out on 3 but i am caught up with current affairs. even tho it has moments of greatness it can be brought down unintentional ham, and downright silly writing at times.
I don’t hate it, and I don’t really consider it bad to the point of it being train wreck TV, so why can’t I critique aspects of the show?
I mean, Jax brawkwardly leaning on that bookshelf a few weeks back was hilarious and made no sense as to why it made the final cut of the episode.
… Did you miss the part where every post about Sons on here is about how awesome it is, and how much we love it? And yes, we mock its absurdities, because true love sees the flaws, and loves on.
Seriously, if you think everything you like should be beyond criticism, you’re fucking stupid.
Walter Goggins said in an interview to TVGuide.com that you haven’t seen the last of Venus. I doubt his character will be involved with Joel McHale, unless the Dean is writing an episode.
Finally, Joel McHale is on SOA, now UPROXX can move on. Seriously, reading every week “Where’s Joel McHale?” was worse than the AICN board wondering which episode of The Sopranos’ 6th season was when Finn gets raped by Vito.
Joel McHale in real life is a douchebag, I love Community, but fuck him.
And the hunt continues!
I’m like halfway through season 2 of SoA and it sounds like I can just quit when season 2 ends.
It’s weird, season 3 is kind of awful, but with a good finale, while season 4 is good with an awful finale.
^yep
I’m here on time, this week. I ain’t missin’ this one for the world!
THIS was hilarious
YAY!!!
