Yesterday it was announced that, like Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23 the day before, Ben and Kate would have its remaining episodes pulled from the schedule. (On Tuesday, we predicted the cancellation of Don’t Trust the B—- and it came to fruition on the same day, and yesterday, we predicted the cancellation of Ben and Kate and it came to fruition on the same day. We should probably predict the cancellation of Whitney now.) For the next few weeks, Ben and Kate’s slot will be filled by New Girl reruns or be preempted by American Idol. In March, after Raising Hope airs a hour-long season finale (that will get an American Idol lead-in), Fox is scrapping the two-hour Tuesday night comedy block and running Hell’s Kitchen as a lead-in to New Girl and the barely hanging on The Mindy Project. Fox will probably burn off the remaining episodes of Ben and Kate at some point.
My question is this, though: Honestly, how bummed are you about the cancellation of Ben & Kate (poll below)?
I liked Ben and Kate. I watched every episode. They were all vaguely enjoyable. Dakota Johnson (who is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson) is seriously cute, though not as cute as her television daughter (Maggie Elizabeth Jones). But I never really felt all that invested in the series. It was likable, and the energy was good, and Lucy Punch was often hilarious (particularly in the most recent episode) but I find that I’m feeling somewhat indifferent about its cancellation. I watched seven sitcoms on Tuesday night as it was, although this point, it’s down to five (with the loss of Don’t Trust the B—-), but I also feel like there’s enough comedy on the night that weeding out a few is not the end of the world (that said, I wish they’d gotten rid of The Mindy Project instead).

I’d still invest in Rail Mail
Bunk-Bed Pizza, yo.
that waterbed chair thing looked tight.
And last episode I was excited because it seemed like they were going to keep the girl Ben was going into business with. She and Ben were hilarious together.
I liked it in spite of itself. The “he wrecks everything in her life but she can’t stay mad at him” premise is older than dirt. The leads were vague (her) and insufferable (him.) But the kid, the buddy and the British chick were great. Rob Corddry killed every time. I will miss it, but I understand why it never caught on.
That is by far my most hated sitcom trope (I Love Lucy, Gilligan’s Island) although it was not as insufferable because of the supporting cast as you stated.
Rob Corddry was on this? Did they advertise that at all? Because I might have actually watched if I’d known that.
a couple of guest spots as the sleazoid owner of the bar where the girls worked. he was gold.
I feel like that trope stopped after episode 3 or 4. The show has been on fire the last few weeks. BJ going over the different English accents in the last episode with Maddie was so awesome. I’m bummed out about this.
Wow. Agent M nails it.
/puts on tinfoil hat to prevent M from reading my mind anymore
Aye, a Arrogant Bastard. But loveable, nonetheless.
I didn’t love it as much as the NBC Thursday shows or Happy Endings, but it was so freaking cute. I’ll miss it.
Super bummed. Quick question: What’s a Ben and Kate?
It was a funny show and I really grew to like the Tommy character but my level of bummed out is nothing compared to my rage at Apt 23 being cancelled. Long live the BEEK!
Not bummed at all. There are way more shows I’d rather see come back or not go away than this one. If I could somehow offer it up as a sacrifice to the TV Gods just point me to the altar.
A little bummed. I liked it more than Don’t Trust the B.
Don’t care.
I was just warming up to the show too. Sad to hear.
It was pretty good. Probably would have bored me eventually. Just don’t take away Happy Endings.
I was just saying when watching this week’s episode “this show is likable and has heart but it really isn’t all that funny”. I don’t think I’ve had any laugh out loud moments with this one so yeah, it was a nice show but I’m not gonna miss it.
definitely more sweet-funny than funny-funny, for sure
Lucy Punch is poison. I’d actively campaign to have any program featuring her taken off the air, have the tapes destroyed, and scrub the whole nasty business from our collective memories.
She’s no Julia Davis, that’s for sure.
Surprised? No… Bummed Kinda but I only watched the show in passing and didn’t put on my dvr schedule.. Don’t Trust the Bitch is more heart breaking because the Beek and Luther are awesome and having Krysten Ritter in bra and panties half the time is a plus.
Agree 100%
I’m definitely more bummed about losing the James Van Der Beek half hour comedy program costarring Dreama Walker’s boobs but I did enjoy Ben/Kate. The really irritating part is that they’re replacing it with more bobble-head British guy screaming at people. Why is there a market for that? My great-great-great-grandfather didn’t kill off redcoats in the Revolutionary War to have to listen to this cockney douche scream at timid chefs.
You should have had another choice on the poll: watched it but not bummed at all. I really liked Dakota Johnson and Echo Kellum, but I found Nat Faxon annoying and the way they used Lucy Punch was just boring and predictable.
What is a “Ben and Kate”?
Pretty bummed. The characters were really starting to find their groove and played well off of each other. I thought the Halloween episode was where it really started to click. I definitely won’t miss it as much as Happy Endings or Parks & Recs when those shows are cancelled but it was definitely one of the better Freshman comedies that should have been given more of a chance.
So if you guys are making predictions and they’re coming true, how about you use that witchery and “predict” another season of Happy Endings. All will be well after that.
We DVRed the first 5 or so episodes, watched the first couple and thought it was ok but it wasn’t good enough to watch right away, so once it backed up to 3 or 4 episodes recorded I said “fuck it, we’re never going to watch this” and deleted them.
i’m with the majority here. while i watched the show and laughed, it wasn’t anything new. i usually love nat faxon, but found him annoying. lucy punch is pretty meh. tommy was my reason for watching. his conversation with that dog was priceless.

Good show. Don’t care that it was canceled. It just didn’t inspire any sort of passionate reaction in me one way or the other.
I never saw this show, but I’m still pissed Don’t Trust the B is canceled.
Let’s put it this way: if it were up to me I’d keep it on the air but I’m not gona lose any sleep over it.
That poll is useless without a “Thrilled it was canceled” option.
And maybe it was just me, but the gnarly teeth on that guy who played Ben were both off-putting and distracting.
Never was appointment tv, but I always found it pleasent when I did watch.
I sort of feel a little to blame. I enjoyed the show a lot, but I could never remember to watch or record. I’m terrible.
