We spend a lot of time bitching about our favorite shows, whether they be Happy Endings or Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23 or Community, not getting the kind of ratings they deserve (i.e. good ones), while the televised fart noises known as The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men consistently bring in numbers three times as large as Parks and Rec‘s highest rated episode. So let’s take a moment and salute AMERICA for getting something right: a whole bunch of people watched Thursday’s season premiere of Archer, and a lot less watched Anger Management.
FX’s cult favorite animated series Archer returned Thursday night to its biggest adult demo rating ever. The spy comedy’s 10 p.m. season four premiere was seen by 1.6 million viewers (its second most-watched telecast of all time) and 1.3 million adults 18-49 (a series high) at 10 p.m.
Meanwhile, Anger Management dropped sharply compared to last year’s series debut. The 9 p.m. telecast delivered 1.8 million viewers (903,000 adults 18-49) and the 9:30 p.m. airing had 1.7 million (994,000). The premiere was down 67 percent from last summer, which was FX’s biggest series debut ever. (Via)
OK, yes, Anger Management still pulled in more viewers (though I’ve yet to meet someone who actually watches the show), but it’s already on the decline from last year’s numbers, whereas Archer keeps getting bigger and bigger, especially in the key 18-49 demographic. Cheeses grilled and gummy bears all around, please. Hey, maybe people are starting to learn, and by 2056, when Anger finally goes off the air, it’ll be because everyone’s glued to Louis C.K. and Amy Poehler’s son’s show, A Shrug and a Giggle (title pending).

I would watch the shit out of “A Shrug and a Giggle”.
Here’s to hoping Lana Kane fan service helped to that.
Bet FX is kicking themselves over the 90 episode order now, eh?
I know you guys have enough floundering, fantastic shows to try to promote, and I wholeheartedly agree with you on all…. But why no love for “The Mindy Project” and “Ben and Kate” (and The New Girl, though you sometimes mention it)? They show real promise (and New Girl is great).
Mostly because “The Mindy Project” and “Ben and Kate” are terrible.
Don’t listen to crispyaod!
The correct answer is: because “The Mindy Project” is terrible. “Ben and Kate” is sunshine and rainbows in TV form.
The Mindy Project is just bad, bad and bad again, I find it unwatchable.
New Girl is like McDonalds for me. I’ll consume it, it hits the spot at the moment, but it’s nothing special. And I would absolutely sacrifice it to get something I like way more (Cougar Town and Happy Endings are both comedies on Tuesdays).
I also find Zooey Deschanel played out. I’m not a fan of the manic pixie dream girl and I think the show would be a million times better if they had someone like Eliza Coupe playing a different role.
“WOOOOOOOOO!”
Let’s just hope this trend continues. I know we’re all on the same page here but I still really don’t get why people want to watch Charlie Sheen comedies.
Because apparently old people find misogyny really, really funny.
Good job you Ameriketzkis
SHAAA-ZAAAAAAM!
Because that’s how you get your show renewed for more seasons.
There’s hope for us after all!
I am hoping this season is heavy on the Krieger. Dude is a BEAST and could swing his own spinoff.
I haven’t watched any of Anger Management past the last two minutes from my Archer DVR but it looks like the non-union Mexican equivalent of 2.5 men.
Charlie Sheen is like herpes, he just keeps coming back, no matter how much you just want him to go away forever.
FEWER
Thank you members of the TV world
Just watched the first Archer episode of the new season on Itunes. My face hurts from laughing so hard. Malory Archer just killed this episode!
