I don’t know if you all realize this, but today is February 4. Which means Thursday is February 7. Which means after almost nine full months, and a wheelbarrow full of turmoil, Community finally returns to the airwaves. Get jacked up, people. This is not a drill.
And as if that news wasn’t enough to make your week, now we also have a big fancy feature film-style trailer for the season premiere to point our eyeballs at, too. Does it tell us a lot about the upcoming season? Well, no, except for the fact that Magnitude appears to be going through some serious sh-t. But it features Jeff, Britta, Annie, Abed, Troy, Shirley, Pierce and the whole Greendale crew up to their usual Greendale-related hijinks (or escapades, if you prefer), and that is some damn good news after close to a year of Animal Practices and 1600 Penns and what not. The only downside to the whole thing is that the episode doesn’t start for something like 80 hours, and I might get so excited about it that I start vibrating at such a high speed that I knock the Earth off its orbit and we all go barreling into the sun sometime around lunch on Wednesday.
Welcome back, you maniacs.

Nice.. that should take the edge off living in a world where the Ravens just won a superbowl.
Question though- am I the only one who thinks less is more when it comes to Dean Pelton?
They made the mistake of grossly overdoing it with Chang, I hope they don’t do the same with the Dean.
I think with Chang they should have just kept him as their asshole spanish teacher- that was funny. His character went downhill as soon as they took him out of that role.
I think the expansion of the Dean’s character has just been more creepy than funny for me.
I agree that the Dean is a resource best used sparingly.
That seemed like a lot to pack into a half hour.
I don’t think that’s meant to be all from the same episode.
Is it possible to link Community videos through the NBC website? I realize that’s not ideal for European readers but it would at least give us a way to support the show in a metric driven way for NBC. If we give their site traffic and click on ads, then they might see some type of reason to keep the show around despite low rating with Nielsen.
So now that NBC knows that Animal Practice and 1600 Penn are godawful is there a chance community comes back for another season? With the Office and 30 Rock ending, it would seem that launching 3 new shows on Thursday would be a bad idea, especially since the 4th show is a completely new take on a not so good series as well
NBC’s Fall semi-hits “Go On” and “The New Normal” ratings have gone into the toilet as well. As bad as Parks ratings have been it’s the #2 most watched comedy on NBC and it’s not even close (that’s why the experts think it’s now almost certain to be renewed). If Community can consistently pull the dreadful 1.3-1.4 they ended last year on they actually got a pretty good shot at another season.
They need to get the word out that the show is coming back. I think Maxim could do an excellent job of this, if only they had a reason to. I can’t think of one off hand.
Anyone else see Britta in a wetsuit that’s actually wet?
Ehr meh gawd, yesh.
I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but that trailer seemed to have all of the quirkiness but none of the heart. I hope the new production team didn’t turn the show into a caricature of itself.
I’m sure they’re just hoping to bring in new viewers by showing the most “accessible” humor the show has to offer. Subtlety doesn’t really work in a mock-movie trailer, anyway.
I’m not concerned. Yet.
I agree with nipples.
Does anyone else feel that something is…. off with the show in all the previews? Maybe they’re just picking bad clips, but it doesn’t feel like I’m watching scenes from the same series. I’m trying my hardest to ignore the fact that they basically have a new creative staff, but I think it’s going to make it really hard to do so.
I have a sinking feeling that this season of Community is going to be like watching a cover band where the lead singer trying way to hard to hit every note exactly right instead of actually putting on an entertaining show. Lets hope I’m wrong.
I agree. I have this worried feeling that the show will become overly self-referential and focused upon current big-ticket media. Kinda like later Simpsons or Family Guy episodes.
That being said, I am still hoping it all works out.
Yeah, don’t get me wrong, I’m hoping for the best too as it has been my favorite network live-action comedies since Season 1 and I own all the DVD’s. So I’m a huge fan, but the pessimistic side of me can’t shake this feeling that it’s not going to feel right and these clips aren’t helping calm me.
Nothing to see here just yet. Go about your business, your aspersions uncast.
If I understand how Groundhog Day works, Bill Murray comes out of his hole and if he sees his shadow there’s 6 more weeks til community.
I’ll admit, Abed & Troy dressed as Calvin & Hobbes is pretty funky fresh.
Right?
Annie’s ring girl crawl… o_0
gonna be so awesome…
I am a quiet man. This made me grin from ear to ear.
It definitely seems… off.
The subtlety/understated nature of their pop-culture referencing seems to be tossed out in favor of a more blatant approach.
Although I’m still holding out hope as I fully intend on watching it this coming Thursday.
Yes.
I’m not going to be more enthusiastic than that. I just am honestly, without the use of links or gif, glad that Community is coming back this week.
What? Can’t someone be happy without making a joke?
Jesus, who do I have to kill and then pay off their families to let this comment slide?
(That was of course a Ray Lewis joke that I’ve been waiting to use, you’re welcome America.)
Welcome back, Community. You have been sorely missed.
What happened to John Oliver? I miss his dulcet Brummie tones.
I so glad it’s finally October 19th.
