I’ve now seen the Game of Thrones season three trailer five times, and upon each rewatch, I always expect, “It’s been a long time…” to be replaced with, “It’s been a long road, getting from there to here,” which is how the awful theme song for Star Trek: Enterprise begins. So every time, not only am I pleasantly surprised to not hear Russell Watson’s granny-panties voice, but also F*CK YEAH TYRION WALKING THROUGH DOORS LIKE A BOSS.
Anyway, HBO amped up excitement for the show’s soon-but-not-soon-enough-when-are-we-going-to-get-to-the-dragons-factory premiere by releasing a slightly longer trailer last night, now with more Robb and Talisa sex, Brienne being tall, and Tyrion quips. If the “touring the country with Bronn” thing doesn’t work for Tyrion, he should form a comedy duo with Cersei. “Hey sis, who’s on first?” “*gets drunk, blacks out*” “…And now please welcome the comedy stylings of Hodor.” A full (slightly spoiler’y?) list of trailer differences, via Den of Geek, below.
- Paul Kaye as Thoros of Myr, the Red Priest of R’hllor and Melisandre, speaking the words “The night is dark and full of terror.”
- The Brotherhood Without Banners around a campfire.
- Cersei and Tyrion Lannister having the following sibling exchange, “You’re not half as clever as you think you are”/”Still makes me more clever than you.” Touché.
- Bran, awakening in a forest, being approached by an unidentified figure.
- Joffrey reclining with his crossbow before a shot of Cersei accompanied by Catelyn Stark’s words to Robb, “Show them how it feels to lose what they love”.
- Yara Greyjoy, sister to Theon, walking through a group of armed soldiers.
- Brienne of Tarth having a bite-y looking fight.
- Jamie Lannister near a fire.
- An unidentified woman at Littlefinger’s brothel moving playfully on all fours towards the camera.
- Joffrey looking worried on the Iron Throne, as well he might.
- A shot of Robb Stark, then one of Jamie being threatened, accompanied by Jon Snow’s words to Mance Rayder, “I want to fight for the side that fights for the living. Did I come to the right place?”
- Ser Jorah Mormont swordfighting.
- Robb Stark and wife Talisa Maegyr getting it on.
- Brienne and Jamie swordfighting.
- Tyrion looking through a metal grill and then spinning an axe.
- Jon Snow at Queenscrown.
- Stannis and Melisandre.
- Ygritte in the cave.
- Brienne in the bear pit. (Via)

I have a similar reaction every time I watch the trailer, except I keep expecting Timbaland to start in with “I shouldn’t have left you…”
Hodor!
Hodor.
Yay, more Brienne!
I heart her so much, y’all.
This. I can’t wait to see the scene at the Whispers.
The starting the long journey of Jaime and Brienne being in the second season finale made me so happy. I’m not sure which one of them I love more, honestly.
Her with that nasty scar just below her neck + the headbutting scene are more glorious than I expected!
Brienne brings a new meaning to the song “The Bear and the Maiden Fair”.
… is it blasphemous to say I am more excited for this than the Breaking Bad final season? I mean, I know Breaking Bad will be a more quality product. I know it will have beautiful themes and sets, I know the drama will be fantastic and everything will play out in a fantastic way. But holy fuck this season is going to be amazing.
I’ll just say this, Breaking Bad, technically a better show, did not get me so excited that I read 5 thousand page books in a month after watching the first season.
I might be the only person in the world who feels this way… but I gave up on Breaking Bad after two seasons. It’s probably one of the highest quality shows in the history of TV, but I got tired of there being basically no good people. I mean, dark is fine, but I like to have at least a little bit of goodness to offset the baddies.
Anyway, long story short I agree that this is way more exciting than the end of Breaking Bad.
Whenever I hear about how good Breaking Bad is all I can think about is “The Wire”
Why must we rank excitement for two of the best series on television at all, fun crusher? But no, it doesn’t make you a bloody heretic or anything. I am positively giddy for both in equal measure, along with watching the fourth season of The Wire this month. I won’t even dignify what the other two said with a response.
I like Breaking Bad but I don’t get excited about it.
Yes. Breaking Bad is the best show on tv. Still, even though I’m more excited about Breaking Bad, this season of Game of Thrones is gonna be amazing.
Hells yea, some great new shots in there.
/nerdhat time: that 2nd thing on the list, it’s actually some of the Night’s Watch around a fire, not the BWoB, and the figure approaching Bran in the woods in Jojen Reed. End /nerdhat, carry on!
Breinne looks freaking crazy here, can’t wait.
So many trailers…
Here is a blog post discussing what would happen if the TV series overtook GRRM. Should be spoiler free.
Ugh, I think I’d like to finish the book series first, but it’ll be hard as hell to avoid the TV series until GRRM finishes the books.
So, Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey are basically doing a comedy duo thing at the Calgary Expo, because in Canada our comic conventions are called expos I guess. So your prediction is basically coming true.
I love them both…Please someone Youtube everything they do!
YES! Brienne and the bear! So fuckin happy they didn’t omit that.
“Every man is mine to torment” is the most Joffrey thing anyone (including Joffrey) has ever said.
*Everyone is
Sorry, I’m such a pedant, though I do concur with you.
I still have trouble believing they got Brienne so right.
Eh, I picture the book Brienne as being way more ghastly. She works for TV, though.
Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but the “camp” fire isn’t surrounded by the Brotherhood without Banners but the Night’s Watch. If you pause it, you can see Sam, Lord Mormont and even good ol’ Edd Tollett.
A bear there was, a bear, a bear!
All black and brown, and covered with hair!
The bear! The bear!
Oh, come, they said, oh come to the fair!
The fair? Said he, but I’m a bear!
All black, and brown, and covered with hair!
Sploosh.
