The original purpose of my latest pop culture venn diagram was to illustrate my appreciation for — and fascination with — the career of Robert Downey Jr., but now I feel like I’m kind of endorsing him to play the first black Batman, and if that’s the case, so be it. If you’ve ever seen Johnny Be Good you’ll agree he can pull it off.
Just a decade ago RDJ was finally getting clean and kicking himself for getting fired by Ally McBeal. Today he’s one of the finest movie stars going. Quite the rebound. So even if the new Sherlock Holmes flick wasn’t already trending surprisingly well on Rotten Tomatoes I’d plan on checking it out because I’m a sucker for all things RDJ. Coining “full retard” while in black face is the sort of thing that makes me a fan for life.

Another Ace in the Hole for a Maske Venn Gram. Having HBO I have watched Sherlock Holmes about 100 times so I am in for a sequel.
@Tankhead: Your enthusiasm is the lifeblood that keeps these going.
Uh, the diagram is drawn wrong. The Downey characters need to be in the individual sections of the circles, unless Iron Man is also a master detective AND a black guy, or Sherlock Holmes is also a superhero and a black guy.
What are you the Venn Diagram Police? Just enjoy it for what it is a dedication to the acting chops of RDJ.
Iron Man is black? What?
I love RDJ (and Uproxx) as much as the next guy, but when an entire article is based around a Venn Diagram (by an Uproxx writer whose specialty is Venn Diagrams), it’s not expecting too much for it to be drawn coherently.
Thank you, Alvis. Also, Tankhead, I am a commenter on the Internet. I am the police of everything. And you should take everything I say very seriously, because I am certainly not an bored, unemployed jackass with nothing better to do.
So it was either Hancock or Steel as played by Shaq, I’d hate to make that decision.
@The White Beaner
You know, I could live with only “drawn incorrectly”, but this makes it seem like Maske just doesn’t understand the very basics of how such a diagram conveys information.
Fellas, fellas. I had no intention of stirring up a venn debate when I whipped this up. The black Batman line is even a jab at myself for the diagram being slightly ambiguous.
Since it’s an “acting” venn it’s conveying that RDJ is the actor who can play any of these things. I tossed in the non-RDJ images to provide a little color.
Hope that helps. And yes Todd, Shaq as Steel was the only other option. The painting was a gift, it’s coming with me.
Comeon man, it’s the internet. Where else are we going to be this petty about something so nerdy?
Here’s the problem: a Venn diagram compares elements of the same type. Since you’ve got three Downey heads up there, we must be comparing characters, rather than actors.
If there was just one picture of Downey in the center, and pics of Freeman, Bale, and Smith as themselves, THEN it would make perfect sense.
@Alvis. Nailed it. I got a little photoshop happy.
Another fist in the hole Maske
