In case you were wondering, Wikipedia, Reddit and Boing Boing all followed through with their promise to go dark in protest of the, as Charles Barkley would say, TURRIBLE Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). And as anyone could have predicted, the misinformed are freaking the f*ck out, proving that the protests are a worthwhile effort considering how many people still don’t appear to know much about SOPA.
Twitter user Katie Notopoulos spent some time last night retweeting some of the more hilarious tweets regarding Wikipedia going down…

Additionally, this is what Google looks like today…

And of course the internet at large is playing a part in the protests in the way that the internet at large participates in everything — with GIFs and YouTube videos, etc. This is from the incomparable Mr. Gif…

And here’s a video made by YouTuber formerfatboys…
Happy Anti-SOPA day on the internet, y’all!

How are people who aren’t in uniform reacting?
Ahhhh, good eye, Stinky Pete. Good eye. You caught that before I did and could correct it, you bastard!
Oh my god, who are these crazy people? Using Wikipedia as a legit resource is about as lazy and ill-advised as watching the movie instead of reading the book.
I feel so old for having to use the library occasionally in college because things like Wikipedia weren’t on the web yet. The kids today have it so easy!!!
Porn still works though, right? So who gives a fuck.
I, um, haven’t checked today. As far as you know. But most porn sites would probably get pulled down by SOPA!
Yes, porn still works. FOR NOW!
Wikipedia is still useful for doing research isn’t it? All one would have to do is cite the actual reference from the wiki article and not the actual wiki page.
I feel like Mr. GIF hates Santa for some reason.
