Well that didn’t take long.
Yes, jackasses are already beginning to emerge in the wake of the Theater 9 shooting. Can’t people wait at least 24 hours post-tragedy to show their asses? Let us all at least have time to process the terrible images trickling onto the web first. Seriously, is that too much to ask?
Take, for instance, whoever runs the Twitter account for the NRA’s official magazine, American Rifleman…

Um, yeah.
And then there’s Rep. Louie Gohmert, the staggering dipshit best known for getting absolutely pwned by Anderson Cooper over his insane “terror babies” conspiracy theory. The first paragraph of this story on his impossibly dumb remarks today reads like the lede of an Onion story.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Friday that the shootings that took place in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater hours earlier were a result of “ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs” and questioned why nobody else in the theater had a gun to take down the shooter.
Yes, Gohmert actually said this: “It does make me wonder, with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying a gun that could have stopped this guy more quickly?” In other words, a sitting member of Congress found fault in the victims of the attack and apparently fantasizes about a 21st century America that more resembles the days of the Wild West than it does a modern, evolved society.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live in a country where I need to be packing in self-defense when I go to the movies.
(UPDATE: The NRA issued a statement this afternoon saying that the person in charge of the American Rifleman Twitter account was ignorant of the Theater 9 slayings when he or she composed the tweet above. The irony of it all, however, remains noteworthy.)
(UPDATE #2: A CHALLENGER EMERGES!)

It doesn’t get much more Judeo-Christian than a midnight showing of a comic book movie.
I’ve just been Imguring and I was surprised to see how many people were thinking the same way about carrying guns around all the time. I feel that that should be unnecessary and can so easily get out of control. It’s okay if people disagree with me, I won’t get upset, but for every well trained, restrained, responsible gun owner there is a crazy who just wants to blow stuff up. And that sucks for everyone.
Critical thinking skills at work in Texas.
Is it any wonder why I have no real respect for the House. I’m pretty sure my uncle could run and win if he wasn’t a drunk parolee.
He could still have won some delegates in West Virginia
I’d like to see these jackasses tossed into a tactical simulator and watch them get killed before they could even reach for their gun. Unless Gohmert was a former SEAL or some shit I doubt he’d be any more successful stopping this guy—wearing armor and having the element of surprise and tear gas cover—by dropping his large popcorn and soda, grabbing his gun with his “butter” soaked hand and … Fuck it.
Gohmert’s a fucking goober. That’s all there is to it.
This is just sad…
God, I love Anderson’s “What the hell is wrong with you?” face. He’s the best.
Meanwhile, these assholes trying to use a tragedy to advance their cause are the worst.
My gd state has been passing laws right and left the last couple of years making it legal to carry a concealed weapon pretty much anywhere. Including bars. Seriously. I’m terrified of the knee jerk reactions this shooting will trigger here. Fuck, no pun intended. Stay away from Arizona.
Didn’t need another reason, but thanks anyway. :p
Cajun, do you have any evidence that the NRA magazine knew about the shootings before that tweet went out? It’s been deleted. It seems just as likely that whoever runs that account woke up and wrote that tweet before getting the morning news. If they didn’t know, you should take the first half of this post out. I don’t doubt that the NRA might embarrass itself later today, but calling attention to that statement when it may have been an honest mistake is kind of shitty.
I think the irony is worth pointing out. Irony rules.
yeah, I thought the same thing when I read this. As much stupid partisan shit the NRA spews, I don’t think that is the case here.
That said, just give them a couple days and I’m sure you’ll have plenty of stupid quotes from them.
Mark Wahlberg never would have let this happen.
Yeah he really shot himself in the foot when he missed his mark. Aim. Pull?
This country is going to complete shit led by worthless congressmen and corporations like this.
Oof, that twitter is an unhappy coincidence. Hopefully.
thank’s…..admin
As a pro gun guy myself, I am baffled at the Congressman’s comment. Guys like him do more to hurt the pro-gun people in this nation than help.
