Before we get started here let me just say that New Girl is the Li'l Sebastian to my Ben Wyatt. I don't dislike it or anything, I just simply do not get the over-the-top adoration for the show. I mean, it's an above average sitcom with OK writing that rarely gets ambitious. What am I missing? This sentiment goes double for Max Greenfield's Schmidt. I almost never tuned in again after the pilot because I found him borderline unbearable, yet the character is apparently this generation's GOB Bluth.
Now, admittedly, during the first season New Girl found its groove and hit a pretty enjoyable span of episodes -- they knew what they were doing with that Lizzy-Caplan-in-form-fitting-tops arc -- but I'm still not quite there. But it's back this week and I'll be watching and if I'm capable of anything it's giving the people what they want. So here's a tribute to America's new favorite lovable douchebag.
I'd be lying if I said these GIFs and quotes don't help his case.

New Girl is no P&R or Community, but it’s a cute show. It sort of straddles the line between “stuff the Internet loves” and “stuff the average network TV viewer loves.”
Either way, it’s pretty impressive that Schmidt went from Dennis Reynolds Lite to TV’s most lovable douchebag in the span of one season.
honestly Zooey is the worst part of New Girl. She has her moments, but she’s more annoying than anything. That being said, Happy Endings is exponentially better in every way.
Glad you mentioned Happy Endings. Had a friend tell me last spring New Girl > Happy Endings and I think it’s made me irrationally negative towards NG ever since.
Like I said, fine show, but the esteem it’s held in by some (due to the straddling PB outlines above) is just kind of mystifying to me.
True American is pretty great though.

Everyone who is even absently tuning into New Girl just for background noise knows that they should just rename the show to Max Greenfield’s The Schmidt Show Starring Max Greenfield. He’s really the only I’m still watching it. That and occasionally to see how Nick screws up his life more.
Hello people, Schmidt is #1 reason to watch New Girl but Theodore K Mullins is a close second.
He’ll always be Deputy Leo from Veronica Mars to me.
