Buckle in, gang. I have got a story for you. A Pennsylvania mail carrier named Jo Amerson just became our nation’s greatest hero.
Firefighters were called to the home on Pioneer Road about 10:30 a.m. when the mail carrier, Jo Amerson, noticed the flames.
Channel 11’s Amy Marcinkiewicz reported that Amerson knocked out windows of the house in an effort to make sure no one was trapped inside.
Amerson said she found an unconscious dog inside the house, performed CPR and brought the dog back to life.
“It’s all in a day’s work. I did whatever everyone would do,” Amerson said. “It’s a life, whether it’s a dog, cat or any animal.” [WPXI]
Okay, two things:
1) “Bust out windows of burning houses to save dogs, and give them CPR if necessary” is definitely not one of the items listed in a mail carrier’s job description, so I feel safe in saying she went somewhat beyond “all in a day’s work” here.
2) I want to be incredibly clear about this one: This absolutely is not something everyone would do. I know because I wouldn’t do it. No chance. I like to think I’d do it, probably as part of a daydream that involves me getting rewarded with a ticker-tape parade and a national holiday that people celebrate by drinking beer and grilling meat all day, but when push came to shove I guarantee I would be standing on the sidewalk, on the other side of the street, pointing at the fire like a boob. This is special, and should be treated as such.
Don’t sell yourself short, Jo. You done good.
